Today my classmates and I were beginning the recordings for our podcast project and we had a couple of difficulties. The topic we chose to discuss about is media bias and its relevance to politics and events. The event we chose to dissect is the Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin case. As we all know the Zimmerman trial held a lot of controversies and skepticisms as to whether or not George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin intentionally or was it just self defense. Moreover as you tune into different television channels of news you most likely tend to sway towards the opinion of a news broadcaster or speaker. This is media bias.

Above is an article of Al Sharpton’s role in the case. If you tuned in to msnbc while the case was going on Al Sharpton made it no secret that he believed George Zimmerman was guilty for murdering Trayvon Martin. He used many examples to strengthen his argument and persuade people that George Zimmerman should go to jail. He believed this case was a perfect example of a race and civil rights issue because he believed that Martin was racially profiled by Zimmerman and killed by a man who is racist. On the other hand, some other broadcasters believed that Zimmerman was not racist towards Martin due to the fact that Zimmerman is partially black and hispanic. The issue with these news broadcasters is that they already have their own opinion of an event and they apply it when they broadcast news and tend to omit information that will hurt their argument. Furthermore, when we witness an event we tend to only look at the details that will complement our opinions and everything else is dismissed.

As for the process of recording for our podcast, we had a lot of issues with getting the microphone to cooperate with us. It would suddenly stop working and then we would have to constantly rescan for audio devices and when we did get the microphone to appear in devices sometimes it wouldn’t allow its to record. However, by almost the ending of class we became more accustomed to it and audacity., Another issue we faced was when recording it was so much more difficult speaking about the topic like we did yesterday. I believe this is because we are aware of the mic and then become clustered. Anyhow, we created an outline of things we want to speak about so we don’t suddenly freeze while recording. So far we’ve got down the intro and hopefully by tomorrow we can record the rest of it.
